Gone, Gone, Beyond!

Music Muse today is spiritual, and once again, right where my Higher Self desires me to be – Gate Gate (The Rishi Earthmother) sung by Deva Premal

The mantra Gate Gate is a gentle heart sutra mantra that when listened to, and I mean really listened to, opens to such amazing divine love.  While the mantra has always spoken to me, today the message was even stronger.  The complete mantra is: OM GATE GATE PARAGATE PARASAMGATE BODHI SVAHA.  The words speak in such a deep level to my heart that I cannot help responding this morning with a feeling of being in a right space for myself.  I looked up the meaning of the mantra, because, well, the journalist inside me had to discover just what it is about this mantra that always speaks to me.

On Pema Chodron’s website, she writes a lecture on the Gate Gate mantra.  What hit home in my own heart are the two prevalent translations:

First translation as cited on Chodron’s website:

Rinpoche’s translation is: OM, GONE (GATE is gone), GONE, (then PARAGATE) GONE BEYOND,

(PARASAMGATE) GONE COMPLETELY BEYOND, (BODHI) AWAKE, (SVAHA) SO BE IT.

So: OM, GONE, GONE, GONE BEYOND, GONE COMPLETELY BEYOND, AWAKE, SO BE IT.

Second translation as cited on Chodron’s website

OM, TRANSCENDING, EVER TRANSCENDING, TRANSCENDING EVEN TRANSCENDING,

TRANSCENDING EVEN TRANSCENDING OF TRANSCENDING, SUCHNESS, SO BE IT.

In essence, as Chodron points out, life is about the journey (Harmony!) and no matter where we are on our chosen paths, even if we took what seemed to be a wrong turn, our path is still right for us and we can move beyond the experience.  Moving beyond the experience – that is what has me hooked today.  So many times, we get stuck in our experiences and want to stay mired in the junk instead of learning, letting go, and moving beyond.

The journey is the importance in our life – not the destination.  We can keep our eyes so focused on the destination that we forget to be mindful of each small moment of experience – the beauty, the love, and the joy that is right there with us.  That is the experience that creates our life, not the end result.  Gate, Gate – gone, gone! Awake! Enjoy the journey.  Enjoy each and every experience! Move beyond the experience looking toward the next experience.  Always moving beyond – always transcending!  So Be It!
