Don’t Lose Control

Music Muse – Need You Now by Lady Antebellum

How often do we look at our lives thinking that there must be something better out there?  The phrase, “The grass is always greener on the other side,” comes up, but I really do not believe that is from where the question comes.  At least not for me.  We get complacent in our day to day lives – getting up every morning, going to work, coming home, going to bed, only to do the same the very next day.  And on weekends?  Well, Saturday is spent getting those things done that get neglected during the week.  Sundays may start out lazy, but toward late afternoon, we begin the routine of preparing for the next week.  Monday morning comes and there we are – same old thing.  Oh, occasionally, we step out of the routine and wonder why we don’t do more of this.  Sound familiar?

One day, we wake up and realize that we are moving closer to retirement age, and there are so many things left to do that we haven’t even touched upon.  We may even look at our partner in life and think that the boredom comes from there and be tempted to just leave it all behind.  And some do.  Others stay because it’s comfortable even though misery becomes a very best friend.  Some make small changes at first allowing the process of change to take its own life.  That is the path I chose.

Once gone, pictures of the old life become, as the song says, scattered around the floor as a reminder of what was.  And we begin to miss that old life because we have stepped out into the new life.  The new life may not look like we thought it would and it may be really uncomfortable.  So, we miss it and wonder what would have happened if we had stayed.  Missing the old is natural when the new is different and stretches our boundaries.  Often, we are confronted with the same old issues that we thought we had left behind.

So, then, what?  We look back with pictures of pretty painted memories forgetting that the very issues we left behind are the reasons we left.  What we haven’t realized yet is that the issue lies within us and was not external at all.  What happened is that we internalized blockages and old thought patterns that we failed to see the roots of the dead tree.

I am the last person to say stay where you are miserable because I left my old life behind and have embarked on an entirely new journey – even making name changes to symbolically leave the old person behind.  I am still with the same partner, and it is because of that partner that I had the courage to leave it behind.  My new journey is often uncomfortable, and I find myself often missing the old life, but I would not go back at all.  I realized that the issues that caused my unhappiness are still with me, and I am working on healing those issues in whatever way I am led.  And it is good!

In those dark hours of the morning when I am reminded of old issues and when old demons raise their ugly heads, I catch myself missing the old life and thinking that I want to go back.  But when I really look at what that life looked like, I know I made the right decision.  The missing-the-old-life-because-it-was-comfortable feeling goes away and the grab-onto-the-new-with-gusto excitement bubbles back to the surface.  Those quarter-past-one-miss-you-now thoughts are just ego telling you come on back!  Stay on track – listen to your heart – and don’t lose control!

picture perfect memories

Plan C

Thursdays, I write at Starbucks after I drop my daughter off at work. Plan A:  Get to Starbucks, get coffee, set up, and write my Music Muse. So, Plan A didn’t work. It’s raining and it has been so long since we’ve had rain that people have forgotten how to navigate through the rain. I dropped my daughter off, but on the way, a bad accident delayed me big time. On to Plan B!

Plan B: Get to Starbucks, get coffee, set up and write. The place was full! By the time I parked, got my coffee, there was no place to set up. Plan C!

Got coffee, go to car, write a quick blog on my Galaxy, and write Music Muse when I get home this evening. So, no music blog this morning, but what this does do is remind me to always be flexible.

There are 26 letters in the alphabet, so one of them has to work, right?

This is Why We Do It

Music Muse of the Day – This = Love by Script

Today I just have to post the lyrics in the post.  You will understand soon.

Have you ever had one of those mornings that just made you wonder why you even got out of bed?  This morning was one of those for me.  So, let’s begin.  My alarm goes off at 5:00 am, and I drop my phone behind the bed.  As I was pouring my first cup of coffee, I spilt the coffee on my hand.  I sit and wake up enjoying the coffee after running cold water over my hand.  I get into the shower and stub my toe on the side of the tub.  As I reach for the bottle of Gardenia bath gel (in a glass bottle), I drop the bottle and it shatters on the floor of the tub cutting my foot.  I end the shower quickly and clean up the glass not realizing that shards of glass are on the floor outside the tub.  Yep, stepped right on a piece.

Fast forward to getting gas in the car before picking up my daughter to take her work.  I start the pump, and it stops at 81 cents.  I’m on empty, so I know it’s not done.  The attendant wouldn’t reset the pump and told me to move to another one.  I couldn’t because the others were full and I was already running late.  He told me to go to another station.  I guess I wasn’t being very sweet at that point.  After filling up the car across the street without incident, I picked up my daughter and grandson.  Took my grandson to my house so that my husband could take him to school and yelled at husband needlessly about keeping grandson’s backpack in his car.  He takes him to school – silly me!  I wasted a good yell for nothing!

We got on the freeway.  Traffic came to a grinding halt. A major car accident that made a normal 20 minute drive over an hour.  I get home to a very disgruntled husband and, yeah, tension was in the air.  As I sat down to listen to the random song on my playlist for this morning’s music muse, my question to myself was:  “Why do I do this?”  And here is this song.

I urge you to click on the link and listen to the song.  Read the lyrics.  Nothing much needs to be said.  The theme for the past two weeks has been about love for ourselves and moving beyond the junk that happens in our lives.  We get so caught up in what is happening in our own world that we forget the big picture.  We get caught up in the But Ifs, the What Ifs, the Buts, and the If Onlys.  Everything that is important to us and is meaningful is right there in front of us to grab and hold onto in these times.  Sometimes, mornings like mine are there to remind us to slow down and take a look at where our thoughts are taking us.  It’s not about smooth sailing all of the time or having perfect lives where nothing goes wrong.  It’s about love, period.

The last stanza says it all.  Pay attention!

If you could be anywhere that you wanted to be
With anyone that you wanted to be with
Do anything that you wanted to do
What would it be and who would it be with you
Time flies but you’re the pilot
It moves real fast but you’re the driver
You may crash and burn sometimes

You are the driver – you are the pilot!  What are you going to do?  Crash and burn and stay down?  Or are you going to get back up again and go beyond!

This is why we fall down
And get back up again
This is where the heart lies
This is from above
Love is this, this is love

Lyrics:
It’s in the eyes of the children
As they leave for the very first time
And it’s in the heart of a soldier
As he takes a bullet on the frontline
It’s in the face of a mother
As she takes the force of a blow
And it’s in the hands of the father yeah
As he works his fingers to the bone

I’m standing under a white flag oh
Can you see me oh
Can you see me oh
I’m standing for everything we have oh
Can you hear me oh
Can you hear me oh

This is why we do it
This is worth the pain
This is why we fall down
And get back up again
This is where the heart lies
This is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it
Love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down
And get back up again
Love is where the heart lies
Love is from above
Love is this, this is love

It’s in the soul of a city
What it does after it crumbles and burns
And it’s in the blood of a hero
To know where he goes he may never return

This is why we do it
This is worth the pain
This is why we bow down
This is why we fall down
This is where the heart lies
This is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it
Love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down
And get back up again
Love is where the heart lies
Love is from above
Love is this, this is love

If you could be anywhere that you wanted to be
With anyone that you wanted to be with
Do anything that you wanted to do
What would it be and who would it be with you
Time flies but you’re the pilot
It moves real fast but you’re the driver
You may crash and burn sometimes

This is why we do it
This is worth the pain
This is where we bow down
This is where we fall down
This is where the heart lies
This is from above
Love is this, this is love
Love is why we do it
Love is worth the pain
Love is why we fall down
And get back up again
Love is where the heart lies
Love is from above
Love is this, this is love

Get back up and Love already!

Dancing Naked in the Milky Way

Music Muse of the Day – A Thousand Falling Stars by Little & Ashley

Cosmic-Dance

I think I must be on some cosmic journey this week because today is about exploring the parts of me that have been hidden.  Most amazing because I have realized that all of the wonder hidden inside of me is right there and has been all along.  As I step into this wonderment, I have those around me that have seen it as well.  I must have had it hidden from me pretty damn good, but I am glad that all of those “thousand falling stars” are landing in my hands to gaze at with wonder and awe.

One of my favorite lines in this song is, “Somewhere inside you, there is a wild frontier.”  The wild frontier is inside all of us – we just have to disappear from our outer selves and “take a journey” to that unknown region.

Source is saying, “What I can show you will take your breath away!”  The Lover is there waiting to embrace us and show us the beauty of those stars inside.  The Lover inside is waiting to catch the stars of our amazingness and wonder.  Are you ready to take the journey?  I am on that most excellent “dance on the moon” as I dance “round and round the Milky Way” with my Lover – my Self that has been waiting to shine – that star that is me, the beauty of me. Ready to know what I found this morning?

I am most beautiful inside and out!  Yes, I am!  Every line is a testament to experiences and joy and laughter and tears in my life.  The way my body moves, how my skin feels, how my smile lights my face.  I found the Lover in me!  Those stars that are falling are falling in me to bring the shine to my world.

Take a listen to the song. Close your eyes and disappear! Take that journey!  Discover your beauty within. If you embrace that beauty within, the Lover cannot help but laugh and dance you around letting the world see that beauty without!

Do not let those in your life that cause you pain and self-doubt tear you down and make you feel less that worthy.  Because, my Love, you are most beautiful and most worthy!  Dance Naked in the Stars and watch those “thousand stars falling down” into your heart, your soul, your very being.  My Love, you are the most beautiful creature in the Lover’s eyes.  How could you doubt it?
